Sci-Fi Looms Large among Upcoming Television Series

Ryan Ly

A respected, Southern California-based entertainment professional, Ryan Ly guided Creative Artists Agency LLC’s Television Literary Department before assuming the role of principal at Curate Entertainment. Having represented properties such as Good Girls Revolt and Better Call Saul, Ryan Ly has a strong focus on television trends within a rapidly evolving industry.

A Screen Daily article brought focus to the preeminence of science fiction among streaming platforms and cable networks, with dystopian visions of the future such as The Handmaid’s Tale and Westworld looming large. Other shows include fan-friendly franchises such as Star Trek: Discovery and Stranger Things. The former has developed a fanbase for half a century, while the latter has an evocatively retro feel that appeals to viewers across generations.

With intergalactic visual effects less prohibitively expensive to produce than in the past, a number of reboots of classics such as The Twilight Zone and Lost in Space are also in the works. In addition to the anticipated series Demimonde, by Star Wars and Lost director J. J. Abrams, a property that many sci-fi fans are eagerly awaiting is an Apple series helmed by Battlestar Galactica writer Ronald D. Moore.
